He Who Has Gone

I miss you
I did not know you

She wrote, "I remember climbing trees with you when we were eight...everyone will miss you dearly."

It was an accident
He is so sorry
He watches as the world around him turns their faces and wipes tears dripping from their chins

He said, "I sat there in the hospital and asked God, 'Why? Why Josh? How will I live without him?' And then I heard a voice, and it said, "do you think I wanted this to happen? I give people free choice so that they can find their own way to me. With free choice mistakes happen, accidents happen, bad things happen. I never said that life would be easy, but I promise to be there will you always. I will never leave you.'"

Your best friend sobbed at your funeral today
Crumpled brown hear, blue almond eyes, and a black shirt tucked in dress pants
He looked so young and afraid

He looked at you and said, "I've been ok."

None of us have changed, not really

Carl is still soft-spoken and thoughtful
Adam is quiet and thankful
Seth is strong yet is not afraid to rely on the strength of others
Hunter cries and cries
Nick and Ryan stand side by side
Greta huddles in a group of friends
Alexis is welcoming
McKenzie is shy
Shane isn't sure where his place is
Katelynn Reaches out

I stand and look at my friends, my schoolmates, my enemies and I love them
I am here for them
The children within us are so alive
They are the boys and girls that walk in a funeral procession and hold hands and cry

They are young but they love each other
We have not abandoned hope

I miss you
I do not know you
But once upon a time
I did

Just a Conversation

"I love how your shoes are so...pink," he smiled. Two blue eyes, one dimple.
"I love how your shoes are so...yellow," I said and we left it at that.

I Got My Swag On

I think about him and the world
crashes down on my head
like BOOM

Thank God for Sadie

Sadie who plays the music loud,
loud,
louder
til the bass kills my eardrums
Nicki Minaj spitting words into the car
through the reverberating stereo

Sadie who gives me her sunglasses
so that I don't have to look at the world
without him
[although it is a lot less bright]

And Sadie who says I have swag

Sailing Opalescent Eyes

they take her
to a place
overflowing now this passionate pool
splashing her thoughts
memories
a baby grand piano floating down the river
whoosh
the herring contemplates the fish
cerulean irridescent eyeball and sleek fins
chunks of metal
a slipper

in her dream, an orchard,
a mango tree,
a cat

in her dream a river,
a flood,
an opportunity
